By producing our books ourselves and building our offering around layflat from the outset, our endeavour has been to make this better form of photo book something you simply receive, without having to treat it as an indulgence.

After all, if you have taken the time to select photographs that matter enough to preserve in a book, we think they deserve to be presented beautifully.

So while you may choose between different sizes, page counts and design possibilities, you don’t have to decide whether your memories warrant the ‘better’ version.

If you have your photographs ready, you are already past what is often the most difficult part—the inertia of getting started. From there, things can move surprisingly quickly.

Choose your book size, select a theme if you would like one—or begin with a blank canvas for a clean, contemporary look—and upload your photographs. Depending on the number and size of your images and the speed of your internet connection, uploading will usually take anything from a few moments to a few minutes.

And then you’re ready for lift-off.

Choose Auto-Fill, and NOSTALO can populate your book with your photographs almost instantly. At that point, you could simply browse through the book, change a photograph or layout here and there, adjust a crop, add some text or an embellishment if you wish—and you’re done.

Or don’t use Auto-Fill at all.

If you enjoy having complete creative control, build your book spread by spread: choose from different layouts, drag and drop photographs into place, crop and position them precisely as you like, add text where it belongs and watch the book gradually become your own.

We may use technology to make the process of creating a photo book easier and more efficient, but we do not believe that personal memories should quietly be reinvented by technology.

Your photographs will not have faces changed, people added or removed, or their essential content artificially regenerated. Where appropriate, routine adjustments necessary for good reproduction—such as cropping or positioning within a layout—may naturally form part of the design process.

Your photos never change. Your memories remain yours.

Yes—and we strongly encourage you to do so carefully.

When creating your own book online, you will be able to preview your layouts before submitting the order. If you opt for our assisted design service, the designed book will be shared with you for review and approval before production.

Please take a little time at this stage to check photographs, cropping, sequence, spellings, dates and any text you have included. Once an approved book enters production, changes may no longer be possible.

As a simple rule, upload the best-quality original photographs available to you.

Original images from modern smartphones and digital cameras are generally very well suited to photo-book printing. Images that have been repeatedly forwarded through messaging apps, downloaded from social media, heavily compressed or enlarged from very small files may not reproduce as well.

Our creation platform can help identify situations where an image may not have sufficient resolution for the size at which you are trying to use it.

And remember: a photograph doesn’t always have to be technically perfect to deserve a place in your book. Sometimes an old, grainy or imperfect photograph holds a memory far more valuable than its pixels.

Yes.

Not every meaningful photograph was taken on a modern smartphone or high-resolution camera. Old family prints, childhood photographs and images from earlier digital cameras can often be used very effectively, particularly when scanned carefully.

They may not possess the technical perfection of a photograph taken today—and sometimes that scarcely matters.

We would much rather help preserve an irreplaceable photograph with a few imperfections than exclude an irreplaceable memory because it isn’t technically perfect.

Every NOSTALO photo book is produced at our own professional print and production facility in Manesar–Gurugram, India.

Keeping production in-house allows us to remain closely involved with the process—from print and colour to finishing, binding and final quality checks—rather than simply passing an order on to an external production vendor.

The sizes offered on our website have been carefully selected to suit the vast majority of requirements while ensuring reliable, well-proportioned results.

But because we produce our books ourselves, we aren’t necessarily restricted to those sizes. If you have a particular size or format in mind, simply contact us. If it is technically feasible and lends itself well to our layflat construction, we will be happy to explore it with you.

Since our online platform is built around carefully standardised sizes, a custom format—if we are able to offer it—will generally involve additional production considerations and may therefore be priced differently from our standard range.

Wherever possible, however, we will always do our best to accommodate your requirements.

Most NOSTALO layflat hardcover photo books begin at 16 pages (some themes may start at a higher page count) and can generally be expanded, page by page, up to a maximum of 50 pages.

Unlike conventional books, layflat pages are considerably thicker, so a 50-page layflat hardcover already has a substantial spine and a reassuringly premium feel. Rather than keep adding pages at the expense of how comfortably and reliably the book opens and handles over time, we prefer to work within a range in which the construction remains elegant, dependable and built to last.

If your photographs genuinely call for more than 50 pages, we would usually recommend creating a beautifully matched set of two or more volumes rather than one excessively thick book. It is often the more elegant solution—and one that is easier to handle, more enjoyable to browse, and kinder to the long-term durability of the books themselves.

Our signature layflat hardcover photo books are produced on a carefully selected premium speciality paper with a natural white shade and an elegant matte finish.

Combined with our layflat construction, it creates substantially thick, rigid pages that turn beautifully around the centre hinge, giving the book its distinctive feel in the hand as much as its refined visual appearance.

Choosing the paper for a photo book is about much more than appearance alone. It must perform consistently on press, reproduce photographs beautifully, feel right to the touch, complement the binding, and remain dependable over time. It also plays an important role in enabling us to offer exceptional quality without making it an extravagance.

In most cases, no—and that is quite deliberate.

Rather than asking you to choose between numerous paper options, we carefully select what we believe is the most appropriate paper for each NOSTALO offering, allowing you to focus on what matters most—your photographs and your story.

That doesn’t mean every NOSTALO photo book necessarily uses exactly the same paper. Certain specialised collections or future premium editions may employ a different paper that is particularly well suited to that specific offering. Likewise, if you choose to have the inside pages laminated—for example, a popular choice for many baby books—we may use a different paper that is better suited to that finishing process.

In other words, where a different paper genuinely makes for a better photo book, we will make that decision thoughtfully on your behalf rather than asking you to navigate unnecessary technical choices.

NOSTALO supports a wide range of commonly used image and document formats, including JPG/JPEG, PNG, GIF, HEIC, WebP and PDF, including single- and multi-page PDF documents.

This means you aren’t necessarily limited to photographs alone. Images and document pages in supported formats can be brought together within the same project, opening up some interesting possibilities beyond the traditional photo book.

Absolutely. In fact, this is one possibility we are particularly excited about.

The ability to combine photographs and other visual content with pages from PDF documents makes the NOSTALO layflat hardcover an interesting format for professionally presented business material.

An architect or designer might use one as a portfolio. A real-estate developer could create an elegant project presentation. A restaurant could produce a distinctive menu; a salon, a beautifully presented catalogue. For an important corporate presentation, a customised layflat book could even sit before each participant as a tangible companion to what is being presented on screen.

Since every NOSTALO photo book is individually produced and finished, our normal turnaround allows sufficient time for proper printing, binding and quality checks. For genuinely time-sensitive requirements, however, please contact us before placing the order. We can confirm what is realistically possible and, where feasible, prioritise production and arrange expedited shipping.

For major metro locations, exceptionally fast delivery may sometimes be possible—but we would rather confirm a dependable date for your particular order than make a blanket promise we may not always be able to keep.

Yes. If you require a significant number of copies of the same photo book—for a wedding, family celebration, corporate occasion, institution or another special requirement—please contact us for a quantity quotation.

Depending upon the book specifications and number of copies required, we may be able to offer pricing substantially different from that applicable to an individual book.

In most cases, yes.

Provided your project remains available in your account, you can reorder additional copies without having to create the book all over again.

If you think you may require more copies considerably later—for an anniversary, family member or simply as a spare—we recommend retaining your original photographs and project information as an additional safeguard.

We take considerable care in producing, checking and packing every NOSTALO photo book. Occasionally, however, something can still go wrong in production or transit.

If your book reaches you damaged, or you notice what appears to be a printing, binding or manufacturing defect, please contact us promptly and share a few clear photographs showing the issue.

We will examine it and, where the problem is attributable to production, finishing, packing or transit, make it right.

A personalised photo book cannot simply be taken off a shelf and replaced. We understand that—and we treat problems with one with corresponding care.

We tend to hear two very different reactions to the price of a NOSTALO photo book.

The more common is some version of, “Only this much?” Occasionally, though, it is quite the opposite: “So much for just one book?”

A NOSTALO photo book is not produced like a conventional printed book.

Its thick layflat pages, carefully calibrated digital printing, hardcover construction, specialised binding, finishing and individual handling involve considerably more material and production work. Each book is made specifically for the person ordering it rather than taken from ready inventory.

At the same time, because we produce our books ourselves and sell directly, we try to keep the distance—and unnecessary costs—between maker and customer as small as possible.

Our objective is simple: make something genuinely good, and price it as reasonably as we can.

You might create one yourself as a surprise, reproduce a family book for someone close to you, or preserve photographs belonging to parents or grandparents.

Unlike many gifts, its value has a rather unusual possibility of increasing with time.
